Symptoms: The
most common symptom of Trigger
Finger or Trigger Thumb is a painful "clicking" or
snapping when attempting to flex or extend the
affected digit, as the adhesion or
nodule that has developed on the tendon tries
to pass through the pulley. In some cases the
affected finger or thumb "locks" down into a
flexed position in the palm of the hand, or in
an extended "straight" position.
Often, the finger or thumb must
be gently straightened with the other hand.
Cause of Symptoms: Trigger
finger is often caused by repetitive or forceful
flexion of the fingers and/or thumb due to repeated
trauma from power tools or long hours grasping
a steering wheel or other object. Medical conditions
that cause changes in tissues, such as rheumatoid
arthritis, gout or diabetes may also increase
the possibility of developing into Trigger Finger.
Treatment
of Symptoms: Although surgery and
cortisone injections are the most common treatments
for Trigger Finger, they have very poor success
rates. FLEXTEND® on the other hand has
been used successfully for the treatment of Trigger
Finger by breaking down the nodule / adhesion
on the affected tendon and thinning the tendon
through active stretches and exercises. As
the scar tissue on the flexor tendon breaks
down and/or the tendon thins, it slides through
the pulley system with greater ease, reducing
the popping, snapping and locking associated
with Trigger Finger / Thumb.
Perform
full-hand and single-finger exercises
with FLEXTEND and the TFT-Kit. No
splints, surgery or cortisone
injections. Simple corrective exercises
eliminate the condition.
